6 CMEs for Physicians and Medical Professionals

This full-day multidisciplinary conference was designed for psychologists, social workers, counselors, physicians and other healthcare workers seeking to make sense of the rapidly evolving world of psychedelic-assisted therapy. In 2024, psychedelics dominated the headlines—with bold claims about the transformative potential of ketamine, psilocybin, and MDMA, an FDA rebuff of MDMA, and psychedelic-related referenda that both passed and failed. Meanwhile, continuing education events of uncertain quality have been popping up like mushrooms, leaving many clinicians wondering how to separate hype from evidence. No worries—we have you covered!

Featured presenters include: Alan Davis, PhD; Dylan McKenney, MD; Selma Holden, MD; and Shauna Sedler, PMHNP. This conference will provide an exploration of the field with one foot in the current science and the other foot in clinical experience and wisdom. Topics include the clinical use of ketamine, the role of set, setting, and ritual in psychedelic therapy, and how to integrate these treatments responsibly into mental health care. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of the scientific, legal, and practical aspects of psychedelic therapy and what the future holds for this controversial but promising field.

Our keynote speaker, Alan K. Davis, PhD is an Associate Professor and Director of the Center for Psychedelic Drug Research and Education at The Ohio State University's College of Social Work, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins University. Their research focuses on the use of psychedelic substances across various settings—community, ceremonial, spiritual, and clinical—to address conditions such as depression, fibromyalgia, co-occurring depression and alcohol misuse, and PTSD. Dr. Davis has led clinical trials assessing the efficacy of psychedelic-assisted therapies and has facilitated educational programs on psychedelic science for students, communities, and clinicians. With a publication record exceeding 90 scientific articles, their work encompasses topics like substance use and misuse, harm reduction, benefit enhancement, and the clinical application of psychedelics in treating mental health and substance use disorders.

Dylan McKenney, MD is a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in psychedelic-assisted therapies, particularly ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP). He earned his medical degree from the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine and completed his psychiatry residency and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Maine Medical Center. In 2023, Dr. McKenney completed a certification program in Psychedelic Therapy and Research at the California Institute of Integral Studies, followed by advanced studies in ketamine treatment with the Ketamine Training Center. He offers personalized KAP services, including low-dose psychorevelatory treatments for individuals and couples, aiming to address various mental health challenges through innovative therapeutic approaches.

Selma Holden, MD, MPH, MS, is the Research Director, Therapist, and co-owner of Riverbird Clinic in Portland, Maine. A family physician with a background in harm reduction and holistic modalities, she integrates yoga, mindfulness, and herbalism into her ketamine-assisted psychotherapy practice. She is also training in MDMA-assisted therapy through MAPS. Before joining Riverbird Clinic, Dr. Holden practiced family medicine in rural Maine and completed research training at Harvard Medical School. She is an Associate Professor at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and has presented on group ketamine therapy at the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine. Her work focuses on integrating psychedelic-assisted therapies into clinical practice and fostering healing communities.

Shauna Sedler, PMHNP, is a board-certified psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner with over 13 years of experience in healthcare. She specializes in psychopharmacology, psychodynamic therapy, and psychedelic-assisted therapy, with certifications from the Integrative Psychiatry Institute, MAPS, and the Embody Lab. As co-owner of Riverbird Clinic in Portland, Maine, she provides ketamine-assisted therapy focused on root-cause healing. She also runs Bird’s Eye Wellness, offering holistic psychiatric care and psychotherapy. Blending insight-oriented, mindfulness, and transpersonal modalities, she integrates traditional and innovative therapies to support meaningful mental health transformation.
