About Me
I believe that psychotherapy is ultimately about producing lasting and meaningful change that promotes and increases flourishing and fulfillment in our lives. The fundamental mechanism for this change is the establishment of a meaningful relationship, one that is predicated on compassion, empathy, non-judgement, and healthy boundaries. The therapeutic relationship is co-created and is a collaborative enterprise that strives towards an egalitarian and emotionally corrective dynamic. Together we will explore your conscious and unconscious fears, worries, wishes, desires, hopes, and dreams to better articulate a positive vision of the future all the while developing realistic goals to help make it a reality. The process of therapeutic change is not often easy and at times it can be unpleasant or emotionally trying. It requires trust, patience, and vulnerability and for many an eventual openness to be challenged and held accountable. I strongly believe that by embracing vulnerability and optimally exposing ourselves to adversity we can actively develop the capacity to promote profound, positive improvements in our lives.
More About My Practice
I use an integrative approach that is rooted primarily in relational psychodynamic therapy, but that also draws upon humanistic and existentialist paradigms. I understand human beings from evolutionary and developmental frameworks and where possible I try to incorporate elements of spirituality and mindfulness into my clinical interventions. In session I work to help my clients develop a better understanding of who they are, their issues, and how they might make changes to remedy their mental health concerns. My therapeutic approach involves taking stock of problems and concerns that occur in the present, but also taking the time to reflect on the past and contextualize each individual person by exploring their unique experiences, family upbringing, and longstanding habits and character traits. As a counseling psychologist, my hope is always to help my clients live a more examined life and to develop new patterns of behavior and healthy relationships in the service of promoting greater well-being and personal fulfillment.
My Specialties
My formal training is as a generalist clinician and I treat a variety of psychological diagnoses and symptoms. I have experience and interest working with individuals who struggle with depression, anxiety, histories of trauma and PTSD, eating disorders, personality disorders, the issues of men and boys, substance abuse, relationship and marital issues, life transitions and general life dissatisfaction.
